Chillyfest canceled

After much hand-wringing, It has been decided to cancel this year’s Chillyfest due to low participation. We look forward to organizing another great event next year, again on the 5th because it’s a leap year! 

John Lane Presents Two New Books

John Lane, of Spartanburg, will be at the store on Thursday, October 13th at
7:00 p.m. to  read from his newest book Abandoned Quarry, a selection of poems
from his past and most recent works showing the growth and fullness of spirit
of one of the most important Southern poets to emerge in the 1980′s. Abandoned
Quarry takes the reader into the hearth of nature as well as into the nature
of the heart, and John Lane writes of both wonder, wisdom, and profound
attentiveness, What a magnificent book; what a magnificent poet.”  -David Lee,
former poet laureate of Utah and Author of So Quietly the Earth

The Jackson County Public Library will host a special evening storytime for children on Thursday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m in the Storytime Room. The event will feature Thomas Rain Crowe reading from his new book for children, entitled The Wake Up Man.

 

Library Hosts Papermaking Demonstration

Stefanie Kompathoum, of Hendersonville, will offer a workshop on how to make handmade paper at the Jackson County Public Library Complex on Tuesday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. The program will take place in the building’s Atrium, just inside the main doors that lead to the Library entrance.

 

North Carolina artist, William Mangum, will be at City Lights Sunday, October 16th  to sign his new book, featuring a collection of his paintings.  His  work is said to capture the feeling and magic of North Carolina.  The  Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation partnered with Mangum to celebrate North  Carolina’s diverse beauty and includes more than 140 original pieces by  Mangum and focuses on how readers can explore, celebrate and protect  that beauty.  A portion of the sales from Mangum’s book go to the Blue  Ridge Parkway Foundation

The Jackson County Public Library will host a free business seminar with Ron Robinson of Land of Sky Advisory Group on the topic of how to create and maintain successful businesses in the current economic climate. The program is aimed at owners and employees of businesses of all sizes and types, from one-person kitchen-table operations to major organizations with dozens or even hundreds of employees.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to pre-register by calling the Library at 586-2016. However, walk-in guests are more then welcome to attend. This free program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Jackson County Library. For more information, please call the Library at 586-2016.

Happening this year on October 22 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, ColorFest, Art of the Blue Ridge is a feast for the eyes and ears. Regional artists of painting, sculpture, glass art, clay, paper art, fiber art, canning, fine art jewelry, wearable art, outdoor art, fine pottery, wood carving, ceramics and fine furniture all demonstrate their creation techniques on this colorful day in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Brilliant fall leaves decorate the scene as local musicians add live music to compliment the creativity. Restaurants and small shops are open to serve the festival crowd throughout this inspiring fall day
