Events 
Father Daughter Dance
A Father-Daughter Valentine Semi-formal Dance is planned around the Valentine’s Day holiday each year and has been held at the First United Methodist Church of Sylva Christian Life Center. Fathers and daughters of all ages can enjoy a night out together with great music, dancing, and door prizes. Desserts and drinks will be served. The cost is $25 per couple, $5 for each additional daughter. Advanced registration is preferred. Cost at the door will be $30 per couple, $5 for each additional daughter. Corsages will also be available for purchase for $5 each. Couples will receive a complimentary photo to remember the evening. The event is planned for February 5th from 6:00-8:30pm.
Greening Up The Mountains
The 4th Saturday in April each year from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, the Downtown Sylva Association, together with its partners, sponsors and vendors, hosts a wonderful day-long street festival. The 2010 Festival will be held on Saturday, April 24th from 10am-4om. For vendor applications, click on the Greening Up the Mountains link on our home page.
Greening Up The Mountains 5K Run/Walk
Beginning at 9:00am at Mark Watson Park and winding through historic downtown Sylva. Prizes for top finishers overall and in each age group! To download the application, click on the Greening Up the Mountains link on our home page.
Taste of Downtown Sylva
The Taste of Downtown Sylva is a walking culinary is an afternoon you can’t bare to miss. Enjoy an afternoon by sampling wonderful treats from several merchants and enjoy what they have to offer. Cool coffee drinks, spicy salsas, delectable sweets, organic flare, gourmet cuisine, and more! A limited number of tickets are available so make sure to reserve yours early. Taste of Downtown Sylva participants will be able to enter a drawing to be eligible for gift certificates at the participating merchant of their choice. Mark your calendars for the 4th Saturday each June for this fantastic event!
Chilly Fest
Enjoy the fall weather at the Downtown Sylva Association’s Chilly Fest. The event takes place at the Bridge Park in downtown Sylva the first Saturday of each November from 12:00 AM– 5:00 PM. Winners in a number of categories are announced at 4:00 PM.
For a suggested donation of $5.00 per person, visitors to the contest can sample the chili and cast their vote. All proceeds will benefit the Downtown Sylva Association. Prizes will be awarded for Best Professional, Best Amateur, People’s Choice, and Best Decorated Booth.
Amateur and professional chili cookers are encouraged to participate in the cook-off, for an entry fee of $15 per team. Local crafters are also invited to sell their goods at the event, for a $25 entry fee.
Annual Christmas Parade and Pictures with Santa
Each year just after Thanksgiving, the Downtown Sylva Association puts together a parade complete with floats representing a broad spectrum of the community. Children in attendance can have their pictures taken with Santa Claus. This is a family-friendly fun filled evening! This year’s parade is set for December 4th at 3:30 pm and the theme wil be announced this fall. You can get your picture taken with Santa by Terri Clark Photography from 12-3 in the Courtyard of Restaurant 553.
