Friday, November 13th at 7:30 pm – First United Methodist Church in downtown Sylva

Gary Carden’s one-man play, “Prince of Dark Corners,” will be performed at the Sylva First United Methodist Church on Jackson St. at 7:30 p.m. November 13 as part of the 5th Great Smoky Mountains Book Fair. The show is based on the life and times of Lewis Redmond, a 19th century bootlegger and upstate folk hero who at one time was more popular than Jesse James and Billy-The-Kid. Actor Steve Brady brings a new interpretation to the figure of Major Lewis Redmond in this production.

The play is sponsored by the Friends of the Jackson County Main Library. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and tickets will be available at the door. All proceeds go to the New Library Fund to furnish and equip the new Jackson County Library Complex.

5th  Smoky Mountains Book Fair – November 14th 9:00-3:00 pm – First United Methodist Church        in downtown Sylva

The Great Smoky Mountains Book Fair is back!
This year we have more variety, more books, more authors and more activities for all ages. Come meet over 50 authors, hear readings, make books, listen to music, get your rare and unusual books appraised, and (for a price) even get a poem for your child’s pet from North Carolina’s Poet Laureate, Kay Byer. We will have a famous dog, who might provide a paw print instead of an autograph.

  • Shop for Christmas gifts: autographed books for readers of all interests and ages
  • Admission is free.

The Book Fair is a fund raising event for the new Jackson County Public Library Complex. Twenty percent (20%) of the book sales will be donated to the New Library Fund. And because of a matching grant from the NC State Employees Credit Union Foundation, that 20% of sales becomes 40% contributed to the new library complex.

The Fair is sponsored by City Lights Bookstore, the Friends of the Jackson County Main Library, and the Jackson County Public Library and is supported by the Downtown Sylva Association. The fair will take place at the First United Methodist Church on Jackson Street in downtown Sylva. Call City Lights at 828-586-9499 for more information.
