Daytime Classic Country and Gospel Music Performed Live at the Jackson County Public Library
Posted November 1st, 2011

The Jackson County Public Library will host a daytime music program on the first Friday of every month, beginning Friday, November 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring the “The Lady and the Old Timers Band.”

The monthly performance by the band enables people who may not want to venture out at night to hear live music from local musicians. The Lady and the Old Timers Band is composed of one lady and 7 self–described old timers, 5 of whom are over the age of 80. They play gospel and traditional country tunes. Members include vocalist Delia Sears along with Fred Kirkland, Jim Hite, and Jim Brown on guitar; Carl Sears on bass; “Wild Bill” Jackson on harmonica; Robert Bradley on mandolin; and Roy Ramsey on dobro.

The group will play from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and looks forward to meeting Jackson County fans. The band plays regularly at the Macon County Library, but the First Fridays concerts will be their first regular Jackson County appearance.

For more information, please call the Jackson County Public Library at 586-2016. This program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Jackson County Public Library.

Frog Level Philharmonic to Perform Dixieland Jazz at Jackson County Public Library
Posted November 1st, 2011

The Jackson County Public Library will host a performance by the Frog Level Philharmonic on Thursday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room.

The group plays Dixieland Jazz, with a mountain flavor. Founded by Charles Alley, in 2005, the band over the years has featured many members of the Haywood Community Band. Playing with the Philharmonic are Mark Raines on trombone, Charles Alley on the clarinet, Jim Boyer on drums, Pat Stone on piano, Otis Sizemore on cornet, Jim Juhnke on tuba, and Mike Pilgrim on banjo.

Much of the music the group performs is from the early decades of the twentieth century, up through the 1930s. “We enjoy preparing and performing musical antiques,” quips Alley.

For more information, please call the Jackson County Public Library at 586-2016. This program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Jackson County Public Library.
